In Brief:

Leendert relaxing...Neil Pryde Sails, Holland was set up by Leendert Maas in 1980 at the time Neil Pryde International started Custom-made sails in addition to their OEM yacht sail business. With over 15 years of working for our company he is our longest term agent.
Leendert was born with his feet in the water, having learned sailing as a young schoolboy in 1956 in old steel lifeboat with a sail made from a sheet. His expertise was developed in crossing the local harbor and avoiding collision with the local fishing boats. He soon became crew member on a Folkboat and at the age of 18 won the first Breskens single-handed day race in a 30 ft boat in Beaufort 7, beating some local well known RORC sailors. In 1970 at the age of 21 he became head of the design office at the international yacht yard Frans Maas, being responsible for the lineplans, calculations and sail plans of many custom made sailing yachts from 27 to 70 ft. At the end of the 1970's production boats became common and he changed over to sailmaking business and started his own company in Breskens.

Sails and Projects:

Neil Pryde Sails, Holland delivered many sails over the past 15 years for cruising as well as racing boats from 25 to 92 ft. Last year a complete Hi-tech sails inventory was delivered to a old 1/4 tonner named Arriba which boat won the Westerschelde Trophy overall for the best results over nine races of that season in IMS all classes. Several years ago a full set of sails for a 92ft Super Maxi sloop in Greece was sold. Beyond the order for the sails, Leendert also redesigned the sailplan and deck layout by then. Other past projects were the sails for Peter Vroon's Hylas 51 winning the IMS Cowes week in 1992. A set of Hi-tech sails for Magic Machine, a Trident 44 one design, participant in the 1993 Round Britain Race were also made. Many CL laminate sails were made for a great number of Standfast boats in the range of 40-56, as well as complete cruising inventories for seven newly built v.d. Stadt 47 Samoas over the past 4 years.

Personal Interests

Besides a lot of sailing, Leendert's private interests are making art and playing music, and he is now back into yacht designing; having just done an Everson 39 of which the hull is under construction. And also on the drawing board is a new design for 103 ft Fast Cruising sloop in order of Dutch client current owner of a v.d. Stadt 47 Samoa having Neil Pryde Sails.

Neil Pryde Holland is a specialist in sailing, from mini- to maxi-racer, traditional cruising boats to fast cruisers or even a windjammer and all those in between. Sails in high quality with durability and innovation, but for all, your safety at sea comes in the first place.
